Negative results are typically final and immediately actionable. Non-negative (presumptive positive) results are sent to a certified laboratory for GC-MS confirmation and MRO review before a formal positive is reported. Rapid testing is ideal for post-accident situations requiring immediate decisions, pre-employment screening when a hiring decision cannot wait, or any situation where speed is the priority.

Are rapid tests as accurate as laboratory tests?

For negative results, rapid tests using point-of-care immunoassay devices are very accurate. However, all non-negative rapid results are sent to a certified laboratory for GC-MS confirmation — so the final confirmed positive is held to full laboratory standards.

What happens if my rapid test shows a non-negative result?

A non-negative rapid result is NOT a confirmed positive — it's a preliminary finding. The same specimen (or a new one, depending on the type) is sent to a certified laboratory for GC-MS confirmation. You will have the opportunity to speak with the MRO about any prescription medications before a final result is issued.

Can rapid testing be used for DOT programs?

No. DOT regulations (49 CFR Part 40) require laboratory-based testing using a SAMHSA-certified lab and DOT-qualified MRO. Rapid point-of-care tests cannot be used as the primary DOT result. SafeTouch offers compliant DOT lab-based testing separately.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to reschedule without a fee. Cancellations or reschedules made within 48 hours of the appointment are subject to a rescheduling fee. No-shows (no call, no appearance) require rebooking before a new appointment can be confirmed. We do not offer refunds on completed tests or services.
